As Qatar continues its rapid growth and development, we at Qtel continue to recognize our responsibility to our shareholders, our customers, our employees and our community in the State of Qatar. As the engine of communications growth and a crucial enabler of regional and international business we know that the people of Qatar have a right to expect the highest standards from us not just in service delivery but also in the way we behave as corporate citizens.
Some years ago we set ourselves six objectives to ensure that our Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) strategy met the goal of helping the people of Qatar enjoy an improved quality of life, both now and in the future. Those objectives are:
1. Providing the people of Qatar ready access to our communications tools and services
2. Helping our people develop
3. Playing a role in Qatar’s social and economic development
4. Improving health, education and well-being services in Qatar
5. Growing Qatar’s profile around the world
6. Containing Qtel’s impact on the environment
Our CSR initiatives have focused on the following:
The Community of Qatar
Qtel continues to work towards providing access to affordable communications for all regardless of race, age, ethnicity, gender or income. Thanks to our efforts, Qatar is truly a broadband country.
The Community of Qtel
With over 1,700 employees across Qatar, Qtel is becoming one of the largest communities in Doha. We take our responsibility to our staff, their professional and personal development seriously, believing that such a commitment is key to our becoming the “Employer of Choice” in Qatar and beyond.
Educating the Community
Education continues to be of the utmost importance to us and an area we support through activities such as our sponsorship of the 3G Wireless Telecommunications Laboratory at the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar and our hosting of the highly successful Leadership Conference in October 2006.
The Global Community
Few people can fail to be moved by the plight of those affected by the conflict in Lebanon. At times like these communication between families and friends is truly a lifeline. This is why Qtel was pleased to waive and reduce charges for those Lebanese citizens who sought refuge here in Qatar during the crisis and to initiate an unique system for all Qatar’s residents to make donations to charities via SMS.
The Sporting Community
Never has sport been so high on the national agenda. We continue to support our sporting heroes whether through individual team sponsorship or through the provision of a unique and state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure for the Doha Asian Games. Sport matters to our people, to our country and to Qtel.
